How do you scale a Wedding DJ Business? How do you scale any wedding business?
Welcome to the Wedding Pro CEO podcast blog, where we dive deep into the ins and outs of growing and scaling a profitable wedding business.
I’m Brandee Gaar, and today, I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Gemma Sherry, the brilliant owner of LUV’DUP DJs.
If you’re a wedding professional looking to build a scalable, profitable brand, trust me, this episode will drive you to scale any wedding business.
Gemma’s journey of scaling her boutique, woman-owned DJ company, LUV’DUP DJs, has been nothing short of inspiring.
From starting as a solo DJ to rapidly expanding her business across multiple states, Gemma’s story is full of valuable lessons.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to scale your own wedding business, here are some actionable steps and strategies that Gemma shared that you can implement in your business.
Gemma didn’t set out to become a DJ—she sort of fell into it. But once she realized there was a gap in the market for the type of DJ service she would want as a bride, she knew she had something unique. She leaned into her background in music and event management to create a boutique, woman-owned DJ company that stands out from the competition.
Think about what sets your business apart. Do you have a unique skill set, background, or service that makes your company different from others in your market? Identify your unique value proposition and use it to target your ideal clients.
“Growth in the wedding industry doesn’t just happen by chance. It requires focus, action, and a commitment to overcoming challenges. With the right strategies in place, you can build a profitable business without the overwhelm.” – Brandee Gaar
From the beginning, Gemma was intentional about building a brand that resonated with her target audience. LUV’DUP DJs is a boutique company that offers a high-touch, customized service experience. Gemma made sure that her branding, messaging, and services were aligned with the clients she wanted to attract.
If you want to scale, you need to be willing to let go of some control and trust others to help you. Start by hiring people who share your vision and values, and invest in training them to deliver the same level of service you would. This will free you up to focus on growing the business rather than getting stuck in the day-to-day operations.
Scaling a business means you can’t do it all yourself. Gemma realized early on that if she wanted to grow, she needed to build a team. She started by bringing her husband on board and eventually expanded to hire other DJs who could deliver the same level of service that she would. This allowed her to take on more bookings without sacrificing quality.

“If you want to grow, you need to get comfortable with delegating and trusting others to maintain the high standards you’ve set. It’s the only way to scale while still providing exceptional service.” – Gemma Sherry, Loved Up DJs
One of the things that sets LUV’DUP DJs apart is their high-touch, personalized service. Gemma emphasized that they treat every couple like they’re planning their sister’s or best friend’s wedding. This level of care and attention to detail is what has helped her business grow so quickly.
Client experience is everything in the wedding industry. Make sure you’re providing a level of service that goes above and beyond what your clients expect. This will lead to more referrals and repeat business, which is key to scaling.
Gemma shared that one of the biggest game-changers for her business was tracking her leads and analyzing her data. Before tracking her leads, she thought she was booking a high percentage of clients. But once she started tracking where her leads were coming from and why some weren’t booking, she was able to make adjustments to her sales process and improve her conversion rate.
You can’t improve what you don’t measure. Start tracking your leads, where they come from, and why they do or don’t book. Use this data to make informed decisions about your marketing and sales strategies.
“Tracking your leads and understanding where clients are falling off in your funnel is key to scaling your wedding business. When you have the data, you have the power to refine your strategy and book more of the right clients.” – Brandee Gaar
One of the fears Gemma faced was booking too many events without having enough team members to handle them. However, through coaching, she learned that it’s better to book the events first and then hire the team. This way, you’re not overextending yourself financially by hiring too early, and you can grow your business at a sustainable pace.
Scaling can be scary, but don’t let that fear hold you back. As long as you have the infrastructure and training in place, book the events and trust that you’ll be able to hire the right team members to handle them. This will push you to grow your business rather than staying stuck in a place of comfort.
Gemma highlighted the importance of surrounding yourself with other successful entrepreneurs. By investing in coaching and being part of a community of like-minded business owners, she was able to stay motivated, learn new strategies, and grow her business more quickly than she could have on her own.

Despite all the success Gemma has had, she’s still focused on growing her business even more. She’s planning to expand LUV’DUP DJs into more states and possibly even internationally. Gemma’s story is a reminder that as business owners, we’re never truly “done.” There’s always more to achieve, and staying focused on the big picture is what keeps us moving forward.
Scaling a business is a journey, not a destination. Keep setting new goals, stay focused on the big picture, and don’t be afraid to dream big. There’s always room to grow.
