“Today, I want to talk about TikTok. Is TikTok a total waste of time? Well, let’s unpack it!”
Today I want to talk about TikTok. Is TikTok a total waste of time?
Well, let’s unpack it!
Okay, so here’s the thing. Y’all know that I love Instagram, I love it!
That’s where our engaged couples are hanging out. We know that.
We know they’re on Pinterest, on Instagram, and so to me, I think Instagram and Instagram Reels are a sure thing.
That’s where you should be putting the bulk of your effort.
However, I have just recently started to come back around to the idea of TikTok, and I’ll tell you why in just a second, and I don’t think it’s a waste of time now.
“There’s a very unique strategy to be used for service-based businesses on TikTok.“
There’s a very unique strategy to be used for service-based businesses on TikTok.
There’s not a lot of shopping being done (for service based business).
The most that you’re going to see over there of shopping or products doing really well are when you have a product instead of a service.
So you see a lot of like, Amazon finds or weird blenders or diffusers or things that you can buy that are a product where people can show it and say like, “This changed my life! You have to buy it!”
And so that does really, really well over there because people will then go find the link and they’ll buy it. Right? Or you can put the link in your profile.
But for service based businesses, there’s not a lot of engagement that can happen on TikTok.
There’s no DMs, and it makes it very, very difficult to actually shop your services over there.
And for the most part, what people are doing is they’re wanting to be entertained or educated over there. So how can you use TikTok as a service-based business?
Well, if I’m giving you advice, which… Hello, I’m a podcast host… I’m giving you advice, that’s what I’m doing. 🙂 I would tell you that I still think that if you have a limited amount of time to spend on social media as a creator, I would still focus the bulk of your effort on Instagram.
“I would tell you that I still think that if you have a limited amount of time to spend on social media as a creator, I would still focus the bulk of your effort on Instagram.”
We know that our engaged couples are there. We know that they’re searching for their vendors there.
Instagram is still more of a pretty platform, and anytime somebody’s talking about weddings, you want it to be pretty, you want it to be aesthetically pleasing.
So even Reels, which are supposed to be more “real” than like feed posts. They’re still aesthetically pleasing. They’re still on brand.
You can post a Reel of just a bunch of pictures set to music and it, it does really, really well on Instagram because people are still using Instagram to see your work and to understand more about who you are as a business.
But on TikTok, it’s a lot more real, like it’s raw and real.
So you can totally be… you know, top bun, no makeup, just having your morning coffee or you can come on completely polished.
But they’re wanting to see more of the real behind the scenes or the real-ness of who you are behind the brand.
“But on TikTok…they’re wanting to see more of the real behind the scenes or the real-ness of who you are behind the brand.“
And so as a service based business owner, here’s how I would tell you to use TikTok.
If you’re in a place where you’re like, Okay, I’ve kind of mastered Instagram, or we’ve got that running on all cylinders and I’m ready for the next phase of my organic marketing strategy, here’s how I would tell you to use TikTok.
I think TikTok is a great place for people to learn how to do something. Okay?
So it’s actually becoming more of a search engine for Gen Z than Google is, which is kind of mind blowing to be honest.
But people are learning how to do things from TikTok over Google.
They’re searching, in TikTok. And TikTok now has, SEO capabilities, even for the text you write on the screen.
So if you write text on the screen, over your TikTok, SEO can pick that up.
So that’s a really big deal because if you are kind of answering a question or educating someone on a topic, the SEO can pick that up.
So if they search it in Google or they search it on TikTok, your video could come up.
“TikTok is actually becoming more of a search engine for Gen Z than Google is, which is kind of mind blowing to be honest.“
So what do I mean by that?
Engaged couples, one thing that they definitely have is many, many, many questions, right?
They have lots of questions. How do I create my budget? How many bridal parties should I have? What time should my ceremony be? What is the best time to take pictures?
They have so many questions.
So if you can go onto TikTok and make very simple, very easy. educational videos to answer their questions. That’s all you have to do.
Just answer their questions. And the videos don’t have to be overly produced. You don’t even have to have hair and makeup on, to be honest.
You can just be like, Here I am. Here’s a video. I’m going to answer your question. You become an authority.
Then what you want to do is you want to lead them from TikTok and say, “Come engage with me over on Instagram.”
Come engage with my business over on Instagram, because Instagram is where you’re going to be able to create a relationship in the DMs and where they’re going to buy from you.
That’s not going to happen on TikTok, but you can use TikTok to really get a lot more eyes on what you’re doing and just to be a simpler way to make video.
“TikTok is where you’re going to be more easily discovered. Okay? That’s where you’re going to get a little bit more virality and then you can lead them to Instagram.”
So, TikTok is where you’re going to be more easily discovered. Okay? That’s where you’re going to get a little bit more virality and then you can lead them to Instagram.
And so, no… To answer the question of the topic of this podcast, I don’t think TikTok is a waste of time, and I am starting to put a lot more effort over in a TikTok.
But, I do want to have a disclaimer, and I always tell you guys like, I want to teach you how to be the CEO of your business, which means that you use your time very, very thoughtfully to get the highest ROI on every minute that you have.
So, if you have extra free time or you’re thinking, Okay, I’m ready to dive into the next arm of my organic marketing strategy, then I would tell you to really start learning more about TikTok, how to use it and how to use it as part of your funnel to get people to your Instagram and then to buy from you.
But if you’re like, Girl, I’m already strapped for time. I can barely get Reels in… Don’t do this yet.
It is not somewhere where it is going to explode your funnel.
I genuinely believe that, yes, you may get a lot of views, but I do not know that just yet, it’s in a place where you’re going to get a lot more sales from it.
And as business owners, what we are looking for is how to get dollars in our bank account.
“So if you have the time and you’re ready for the next phase of organic marketing, I would say, let’s dig into TikTok.”
So if you have the time and you’re ready for the next phase of organic marketing, I would say, let’s dig into TikTok.
It definitely has a place in your marketing strategy, but if you do not have time and you’re already overwhelmed with Instagram, then focus a hundred percent of the time that you have on Instagram, because that’s where people are going to buy from you.
So I hope this was helpful you guys.
And if you want to learn more about TikTok, I’m going to be sharing a whole lot more about my journey of learning how the app works and learning what’s working and what’s not working.
So if you’re wanting to learn more about TikTok, stick around, pay attention to my stories on instagram and on behind the scenes of my TikTok because I’m going to share all of it with you guys.
All right, Thank you so much for being here, and I will see you next time!!
